Springer Release Record Fields

Springer Prison History
Springer’s institutional history is distinct from current adult custody. NMCD says the site was formerly the New Mexico Boys’ School until the Children, Youth and Families Department closed that juvenile facility in 2005. It entered NMCD use in 2007 and became a women’s facility in 2016. Old juvenile matters must not be searched or described as if they were modern adult Springer records.
The history also helps prevent a common Colfax County error. VMDC in Raton is county-operated adult detention, while Springer is state-operated imprisonment. A person can leave VMDC for NMCD after sentencing and later be housed at Springer or another state institution. The first movement is a county-to-state transfer. Springer Parole After Release
A person can be released from Springer and remain in the NMCD system under parole. Parole is conditional community release from prison; it does not mean the sentence has fully ended. Probation differs because a court imposes it as community supervision, sometimes without a state-prison term. NMCD’s Probation and Parole Division supervises both categories, while the New Mexico Parole Board makes parole-release decisions where its authority applies.

An absconder status means supervision is unresolved. It does not prove VMDC custody and should not be converted into a claim that the person completed supervision.
Springer Release Notifications
NMCD Victim Services is a designated verification and notification channel for eligible victims and family members seeking location, supervision, or projected-release information. New Mexico VINE serves as a separate notification aid. VINE can report certain NMCD release, out-to-court, and escape events, but NMCD says it does not notify prison-to-prison transfers.
The state VINE page carried an upgrade notice on the research date. It said the NMCD portion was unavailable for offender searches, new registrations, and most notifications, while release notifications continued for people already registered. That notice must be checked live because service status can change. The NMCD offender search and institution remain the fallback.
Current state records should always control over an older saved notification or search result.
VINE registration is also separate from written notice through the prosecuting District Attorney for eligible victims. Enrollment in one system does not create enrollment in the other.
